Sports Medicine Treatments and Ligament Reconstruction Surgery

St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center employs the most up-to-date medical and arthroscopy treatments for sports injuries that sideline Boston athletes of any level. At the Bone and Joint Center at St. Elizabeth’s, we use new minimally invasive, biologic treatments to preserve joints and avoid the need for joint replacements. When surgery is recommended, we use less-invasive arthroscopic surgery techniques to repair shoulder and knee injuries. The center also uses state-of-the-art reconstructive techniques to repair anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), cartilage and other knee injuries.

The medical team, led by Dr. Thomas Gill, chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, specializes in ACL reconstruction, articular cartilage and meniscus repair, and shoulder surgery, including rotator cuff and labral repairs.

In addition to performing orthopedic surgical procedures, St. Elizabeth’s Sports Medicine Program offers non-surgical therapy and approaches for sports injuries, illnesses, and chronic overuse. Operating as part of the integrated Bone and Joint Center, the Sports Medicine Program doctors and support staff care for adults, adolescents and children in the Boston area. The goal of the program is to provide new and established therapies to help restore patients to their best quality of life and avoid the need for joint replacements.

Our team also offers VisionScope, which is a miniature endoscopic imaging system designed to enable pre-operative and post-operative diagnosis right in our orthopedist’s office, on the same day of the appointment.

Additionally, we offer a Sports Concussion Clinic, Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Clinic, Regenerative Medicine and Tactical Athlete Clinic.
