All surgeries carry risk, but traditional open surgery with a large incision has significant drawbacks, including pain, trauma, a long recovery and risk of infection. Fortunately, less invasive surgical options are often available. If you need surgery to treat your urological condition, you may be a candidate for da Vinci® Surgery, which is a safe, effective and minimally invasive procedure. Using the most advanced technology available today, the da Vinci® Surgical System allows doctors to perform delicate and complex operations through a few tiny incisions with increased vision, precision, dexterity and control.
At Steward® Robotic Services, we offer the following urology surgeries:
- Robotic Surgery for Prostate Cancer
- Robotic Surgery for Kidney Cancer
- Robotic Surgery for Bladder Cancer
- Robotic Surgery for Urinary Obstruction (Kidney Disorders)
The Robotic-assisted Surgery Program is led by, Ingolf A. Tuerk, MD, PhD, chief of Urology and director of the Robotic-assisted Surgery Program at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, an leader in laparoscopic and robotic urologic surgery. St. Elizabeth's Medical Center for Robotic Surgery is the most experienced center in New England performing robotic bladder removals and urinary diversion for bladder cancer.
Dr. Tuerk is an expert in the use of the da Vinci® Surgical System, and has performed 1,500 robot-assisted radical prostatectomies. What makes Dr. Tuerk special is that he is an oncologist (a specialist in treating cancer), and is laparoscopically trained, which is a unique combination and guarantees expertise all aspects of the treatment of urological cancer including prostate cancer. Dr. Tuerk is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in laparoscopic and robotic surgery and has pioneered many procedures.
