St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center Welcomes Chief of Advanced Heart Failure, Richard D. Patten, MD

Brighton, MA – St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center and Steward Medical Group (SMG) welcome Advanced Heart Failure specialist Richard D. Patten, MD, FACC, to the medical staff as Chief of the Heart Failure division. 

Board certified in cardiovascular diseases, advanced heart failure and cardiac transplant, Dr. Patten brings a breadth of experience in the advanced heart failure space, particularly in cardiomyopathy and amyloid heart disease. Richard Patten MD

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Patten join the SMG Cardiology division at St. Elizabeth’s. His expertise in the field of advanced heart failure helps deepen the award-winning care that we provide to our patients,” said Joseph Carrozza, MD, Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center and Vice President, Steward Cardiovascular Network. “Dr. Patten will also be developing new programs in Advanced Heart Failure Care at SEMC and will oversee our efforts to improve the quality of care to heart failure patients throughout Steward hospitals in Massachusetts.”

Dr. Patten previously served as Director of the Lahey Health Integrated Heart Failure Network at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, Mass. A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD, Dr. Patten completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Maryland and Baltimore VA Hospitals before moving on to a fellowship at the same institutions in advanced heart failure. He then proceeded to Tufts Medical Center in Boston for a fellowship in general cardiology, interventional cardiology, and advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation. 

Dr. Patten is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, as well as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Additionally, he has received “Top Doctor” honors from Boston Magazine and North Short Magazine for five consecutive years.
