da Vinci® Cystectomy
Experienced robotic surgeons at Steward are using the da Vinci® Cystectomy, a revolutionary minimally invasive cancer surgery to help patients diagnosed with bladder cancer.
The da Vinci robot provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy by putting a surgeon’s hands at the controls of a state-of-the-art robotic platform. Surgeons operate through a few small incisions instead of a large open incision. The da Vinci System features a magnified 3-D high-definition vision system and special wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human wrist and it enables surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity, and control.
The benefits of having a da Vinci Cystectomy may include:
- Lower risk of major complications
- Shorter hospital stay
- Less blood loss and fewer transfusions
- Faster recovery
- Less pain and scarring
- A quicker return to a normal diet
- Quicker recovery of bowel function
