St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, a Steward Health Care family hospital and a teaching affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine, recently earned the designation of a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care®. To date, St. Elizabeth’s is one of only eight Massachusetts hospitals to receive a Cardiac Care distinction, and one of three in the Boston area. This distinction follows St. Elizabeth’s recent designations from Healthgrades as America's 100 Best Cardiac Care, America's 100 Best Coronary Intervention, the Cardiac Care Excellence Award and the Coronary Intervention Excellence Award.
With the Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care patients can be assured that they are receiving the very best surgical care in the Boston area with the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts designation.
To earn this designation St. Elizabeth’s met stringent quality measures for patient safety and outcomes, developed with input from the medical community. The goal of the Blue Distinction program is to help consumers find health care facilities that have demonstrated better overall outcomes (e.g., fewer medical complications, fewer readmissions and higher survival rates) in the delivery of specialty care. St. Elizabeth’s advanced training programs and specialty-based patient care teams, as well as its commitment to evidence-based practice and quality improvement, were key factors in earning the Blue Distinction.
“The Blue Distinction recognition speaks to the level of cardiac expertise at St. Elizabeth’s and our ability to consistently achieve outstanding outcomes for our patients,” said Kevin Hannifan, St. Elizabeth’s president. “We are proud and honored to be one of only a few hospitals in the Boston area to receive a designation in three categories. We are proud of our staff that helped us earn these distinctions along with the exceptional services we offer our patients. This distinction is a validation of our commitment to our community to deliver quality health care.”
