St. Elizabeth’s is renowned for its state-of-the-art vascular surgery capabilities, which range from complex surgery for patients with advanced arterial or peripheral vascular disease to cosmetic treatment of fine spider veins.
Under the leadership of Frank Pomposelli, Jr., MD, chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Elizabeth's, our board-certified surgeons, all faculty members of the Tufts University School of Medicine, are adept at performing the most sophisticated and advanced techniques.
We were the first hospital in the nation to apply multidisciplinary care to peripheral vascular disease and we continue to set the standard for care. Working in close collaboration with St. Elizabeth’s medical vascular specialists, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and more, we provide some of the finest therapies available in the Boston area. All procedures are carried out in state-of-the art facilities with the most modern equipment.
Our vascular surgery team has a distinguished record of participation in important clinical trials including the North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial comparing the effectiveness of minimally invasive angioplasty treatment to heart surgery. Team members have also studied the use of gene therapy to stimulate the growth of blood vessels.
St. Elizabeth’s surgeons are also known for their personalized approach to surgical care and ready availability to the care team for treatment decisions. Vascular surgeons and medical doctors work closely with one another and with our other highly trained professional staff members, holding weekly meetings to discuss each patient’s progress.
All of this means that at St. Elizabeth’s, you will find the compassionate care of a community hospital combined with the sophisticated treatment available in the nation’s greatest medical centers.
