St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, a Thomson Reuters Top 100 Hospital, teaching affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine and a member of Steward Health Care, welcomes world-renown vascular surgeon and Harvard Medical School Professor of Surgery Frank B. Pomposelli, MD, as chairman of the Department of Surgery.
Pomposelli brings to St. Elizabeth’s a stellar record of leadership and collaboration, clinical innovation and a commitment to delivering the highest quality care to patients and families. He has one of the largest tertiary referral practices for vascular surgery in Boston as he performs nearly 400 procedures a year. He has completed more than 2000 lower extremity bypass procedures during his career. At St. Elizabeth’s, Pomposelli leads the team of talented surgeons and the surgical education and training program.

At BIDMC, Pomposelli served as chief of Vascular Surgery and program director for the Vascular Surgery training program since 2006. In 2007, he gained the additional role of chief of Cardiovascular Surgery in BIDMC’s Cardiovascular Institute. He also had served as co-director in the vascular lab and associate chairman for hospital networking for surgery at BIDMC, among other leadership positions. In addition, he is President of the New England Society of Vascular Surgery.
Pomposelli earned his bachelor’s degree from Boston College and medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine. He trained in general surgery and completed a research fellowship at New England Deaconess Hospital, and completed a fellowship in peripheral vascular surgery at New York University Medical Center. He also completed an advanced endovascular fellowship program at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
