Diagnostic Imaging

St. Elizabeth’s Diagnostic Imaging Center is known throughout New England for its extensive and groundbreaking diagnostic capabilities and expertise.

Our board-certified radiologists, all faculty members of the Tufts University School of Medicine, are experts in a variety of radiology subspecialties. Frequently named as top doctors nationally and by Boston Magazine, they provide the expertise, compassion and high-level care for which this hospital is known.

They work closely with other St. Elizabeth’s specialists, surgeons and referring physicians, accurately diagnosing disorders with the latest MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), CT (computerized tomography), PET and ultrasound scanning technologies.  They are also among the most experienced physicians in New England with the latest interventional and nuclear imaging techniques.

At St. Elizabeth’s all images are digitized for rapid diagnosis and safekeeping.  In addition, to better protect our patients, new technology employs up to 80 percent less radiation.

Breaking new ground in radiology

  • St. Elizabeth’s was the first hospital on the East Coast to conduct automated MRI-guided breast biopsy and to offer ultrasound-guided breast biopsies and non-surgical benign tumor removal.
  • We are at the forefront in using three-dimensional reconstructions to interpret all CT results. We also offer low-dose coronary CT angiograms, which use 80 percent less radiation than traditional coronary CT scans.
  • We regularly perform advanced procedures such as non-invasive radiofrequency tumor ablation, and sonohysterograms for diagnosing uterine abnormalities.
  • Low Dose CT Lung Cancer Screening, which uses x-rays to see into the lungs, has been proven effective in detecting lung cancer for smokers who fit certain criteria, according to the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST), and it's available at St. E.s. Learn more.

Our radiologists receive referrals from all of the New England states for complex diagnostic challenges. They are actively involved in clinical research, and their participation in national clinical trials gives patients access to some of the most sophisticated new technologies available. They also provide specialty training for medical residents and fellows.

All services are available at St. Elizabeth’s with ample low-cost valet and garage parking.
