St. Elizabeth’s has one of the finest, most experienced neurophysiology laboratory teams in the Boston area. Our caring, board-certified neurologists and technologists offer a comprehensive array of expert diagnostic and assessment services. Our services are designed to help clinicians treat patients who may have neurologic symptoms or conditions.
St. Elizabeth’s team is highly skilled at performing and evaluating the
full range of standard tests and advanced studies available only in a
limited number of other Boston-area hospitals. Tests available in
our neurophysiology lab include:
EEG (electroencephalogram) is used predominately for diagnosing seizure disorders.
EMG (electromyography) studies assess the health of the muscles and the nerves that control them.
EP (evoked potential) studies evaluate sensory nerve signals through the eye, spinal cord and brain. These include visual evoked responses (VER), brainstem auditory evoked responses (BAER) and somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP). These tests are used primarily in diagnosing multiple sclerosis (MS).
Single Fiber EMG (SF-EMG) is a potent tool for evaluating impaired neuromuscular junction transmission, critical for the diagnosis of disorders such as myasthenia gravis.
Tremor testing that can distinguish between tremors caused by Parkinson’s disease and by other neurologic disorders.
Specialty procedures including autonomic nerve testing and quantitative sensory testing (QST) with the CASE IV system.
Our neurologists, all faculty members at the Tufts University School of Medicine, have a long tradition of teaching and training neurology residents and fellows in neuromuscular specialties. They also carry out research and clinical trials, and, in working with referring physicians, provide test results promptly.
In St. Elizabeth’s tradition of patient-focused, personalized care, the neurophysiology lab offers flexible scheduling for our patients’ convenience. We are happy to coordinate neurophysiology lab testing with other appointments our patients may have on campus.
All services are carried out at St. Elizabeth’s conveniently located Boston campus, where inexpensive valet parking is available for patients, families, and other visitors.
