Renovated Neurosciences DepartmentThe Neurosciences Department at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center is a dynamic combination of state-of-the art patient care and innovative research looking into the relationship between brain, nerve and body function. The result is a comprehensive, nationally recognized approach to the treatment of severe conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord and nerves.

The department includes specialists in neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology and electrophysiology. These specialists work together as a team, along with a staff of highly trained nurses and technicians, to diagnose each patient's condition and develop individual treatment plans.

The Center for Nerve Diseases at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center is a national referral center for Guillain-Barre syndrome, a peripheral nerve condition that can result in temporary paralysis and respiratory failure. Some 5,000 people are diagnosed with the disease in the United States each year.  The Center treats more than 50 Guillain-Barre patients a year; some of whom come from as far as Europe and South America. A similar number of patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) and related disorders are seen.
