Ellen Lathi, MD

Dr. Lathi is the Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Center at St. Elizabeth’s as well as a well-known speaker on treatment issues and wellness in MS. She is involved in numerous clinical trials at the Center relating to the treatment of MS and is widely recognized for her clinical expertise and comprehensive approach to patient care. She also directs the MS Service Dog Program, sponsored by the NMSS, in which highly trained dogs are trained to assist patients with multiple sclerosis. In addition, Dr Lathi has been repeatedly recognized as one of Boston Magazine’s “Best Doctors” and one of US News and World Reports’ “Top Doctors”, and she has received the prestigious Physician Health Care Professional Volunteer award from the Central New England Chapter of the National MS Society. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, Chairman of the Clinical Advisory Committee of the Greater New England Chapter of the National MS Society, and a member of the Consortium of MS Centers.

Joshua Katz, MD

Dr. Joshua Katz joined the Multiple Sclerosis Center in 2008 and is a recognized expert on transverse myelitis and MS. He sees consultations from the entire New England area. Dr. Katz is involved in many clinical trials for the treatment of MS and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and The Consortium of MS Centers. His focus is on comprehensive care of the whole person, not just the neurological disease. Dr. Katz strongly believes that the level of care provided by the MS Center is unmatched by any other center in Boston. He has received multiple awards from Tufts Medical School recognizing his skill and dedication to teaching. His favorite part of his job is getting to know patients and their families, and helping them to understand the many aspects of MS, from complex treatment decisions to how it impacts one's personal life. When not hard at work at the MS center he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, reading, listening to music, cooking (and eating), running (not so much), and photography.

Jeanne Lewis

Jeanne has been an MS center clinical nursing coordinator for the past 7 years, and a neurology nurse since 1997 with additional experience in case management. If you ask Jeanne, she’ll tell you that the best part of her job is being able to spend time with patients and families. She enjoys teaching and counseling them on all aspects of treatment and lifestyle and supporting them through difficult times. She loves working as a team with the rest of the staff to provide comprehensive care for MS patients and their families. She has her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Anselm College, is an MS certified nurse, and member of International Organization of MS Nurses (IOMSN).  She enjoys reading, golf, and spending time outdoors, as well as loving every minute with her little daughter, Emma!

Nina Perkins

The field of neurology has always interested Nina. She has worked in the Department of Neurology since 2004 and at the MS Center since 2007.She greatly values having had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles as an MS Center and department team member. Originally in the role of MS research coordinator, she worked on clinical trials for MS during the day, while obtaining her nursing degree in the evening. Nina has subsequently joined Jeannie as one of the clinical nurse coordinators in January 2012. Her favorite part of the job is the knowledge that she is helping patients on a daily basis, whether it be just refilling a prescription or talking a patient through a new symptom, or educating them about a new medication. Nina’s additional hobbies include traveling, reading, hiking, spending time at the beach, and many other outdoor activities.

Lauren Cross

Lauren has worked with the MS Center since 2007 and her role includes providing clinical assessment, psychoeducational and psychotherapeutic services to MS patients and their families. She believes that social work is an essential piece of comprehensive care in MS. The patient-centered approach to MS care at St. Elizabeth’s allows her to work alongside patients and their families in an effort to empower and support them. Lauren’s favorite part of her job is working with a wonderful and supportive team of coworkers who share her passion.

Lauren is a licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and has a BS in Psychology from Trinity College and a Master’s in Social Work from Boston College. She is a Multiple Sclerosis Certified Specialist and has also completed a Certificate Program in Cognitive and Behavioral Interventions. She is a busy beaver, both working at the Center and taking care of her new baby boy, Carter!

Marissa developed a strong interest in neurology while in college and has been working with the MS Center since the summer of 2011. As a recent graduate from Boston College with a major in Biology, she is well positioned for her job as Research Coordinator and excited to have the opportunity to expand her knowledge in the field. The MS Center has exposed her to both clinical research and patient care. Marissa enjoys working with the knowledgeable MS Center team because she learns something new on a daily basis. She also enjoys walking Georgia, the Center’s first MS Service Dog!

Allison Walczyk

Ali has worked at the MS center for a year as a Clinical Research Assistant. She graduated from Boston College in 2011 with a BS in Biology and a minor in Sociology. Allison loves the fact that her experience here at the MS center is very patient-based, and she enjoys forming connections with the patients. It has been a wonderful experience for her to learn the stories of each patient and to see how various treatments play a role in their individualized care. She has also been able to delve into the research side of MS through her hard work on several clinical studies relating to the effectiveness of two new MS medications.

In addition to her work, Ali loves to travel whenever she has the opportunity to do so. Her upcoming travel aspirations include Turkey, and South Africa! She aspires to becoming a nurse practitioner and hopes to begin her education for this over the next few years.

Marcela Hauck-Burke

Marcela is the secretary and assistant for Dr.’s Lathi and Katz and the MS Center. She has worked in this role for over five years and enjoys being a member of the team and having a voice in the day to day operations of the Center. She has a degree in business administration and is a certified medical interpreter, with expertise in both Spanish and Portuguese. She enjoys reading, biking, traveling, going to the beach and spending time with her two small children.

Georgia, MS Service Dog

Georgia

Georgia is the first dog to graduate the MS Service Dog Program. She began her training when she was a tiny puppy and has worked every day at the MS Center since then. She was placed with her recipient during the summer of 2012.
