As Community Liaison, David Winner serves St. Elizabeth's administration, staff and patients by developing cultural and religious awareness. As liaison to the Jewish community, Winner is committed to helping the local and broader Jewish communities facing medical issues or challenges. Prior to joining St. Elizabeth’s, he founded UJLife, which has educated Jewish university students in Boston since 2007.
Winner is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, in which he served as a
network engineer. He earned a top secret security clearance and various
awards for his service, which included an overseas deployment in support
of Operation Enduring Freedom. While on active duty, he was selected as
a Jewish Lay Leader by the U.S. Military Chaplaincy to serve the
religious and spiritual needs of Jewish personnel and their families at
an installation which lacked the services of a Jewish chaplain, a
responsibility rarely conferred on a junior enlisted airman. Following
his Honorable Discharge from the Air Force, he earned his BA in talmudic
law and rabbinical ordination from Ohr Somayach – Ohr Lagolah Institute,
Jerusalem, before coming to Boston.
